Europe is being crushed by huge electricity prices. And the Scandinavian countries have already found the culprits – they are angry with the Germans because of the so-called ‘Dunkeltflaute effect’. Details are reported by Gazeta.

The Scandinavian countries are furious with the Germans. They believe that all of Europe is suffering because of their careless past decisions. In many countries, electricity prices are at record highs.

Norway, for example, wants to limit energy exports to Europe. The government is considering the possibility of cutting the energy connection with Denmark after the contract expires in 2026. The more radical opposition is also demanding a review of energy ties with Britain and Germany.

The reason for this is the so-called “Dunkelflaute effect” (German Dunkelflaute or “Dark tranquility” – EDaily), that is, a period in which there is no light and wind and in which there are not many options for generating energy from wind and sun. Germany has relied on such methods to generate electricity in recent years, unlike France, which has not even considered closing its nuclear power plants. That is why the Germans now pay almost as much for electricity as the Danes, and the Dutch and Austrians lag considerably behind in terms of expenditure.

Norwegian media write that electricity bills in the country have increased “skyrocketed.” And now the countries most affected by the ‘Dunkelflaute effect’ want to compensate for the shortage with supplies from other countries. For example from Norway, where there is a large production of hydropower. In this way, however, they influence prices in Norway itself, where the cost of a kilowatt hour this week reached a record of the past five years.
